Some sculptures are created directly by finding or carving; others are assembled, built together and fired, welded, molded, or cast. Sculptures are often painted. Because sculpture involves the use of materials that can be moulded or modulated, it is considered one of the plastic arts. The majority of public art is sculpture. You might be able to keep rodents away with Bitter Apple that is used to control where cats and dogs chew, but I doubt it. I think you will have to make the equivalent of a metal bread box or pie chest for the same reasons they were used in the "good" old days.
