How can I focus artistic children with getting ready for going out?
Q. My work college has a artistic child that is forever trying to be different going to school and takes forever doing so. She's often caught her not getting ready but playing around when she needs to get going - she sometimes isn't dressed. How can she turn the activity of getting ready into an artistic event that won't take longer than she doing now? No matter how early the child gets up, she still finds an activity that will keep her entertained, rather than getting ready. She has tried getting her to make sandwiches in the morning, but makes it longer, the child does it the night before. I am not a teacher, I am finding out for a work college She tried the beat the clock, it only lasted for one day She gets ready just in time with… [cont.]

A. Send her to school in her pajamas, with her clothes in a bag. She will be mortified arriving to school not dressed. After that, co-operation is guaranteed!

Scientific reasons why artistic people are more emo and depressed?
Q. Of course it's a stereotype to say that artistic people are all emo/depressed/super sensitive and live in their own world. However, from what I've seen, those people who are super emo, sad, and have interesting views of the world are generally more artistic. Does emoness stimulate artistic abilities or vice versa? Are there any scientific reasons behind this?

A. People with artistic abilities are obviously more capable of expressing how they feel rather than someone who isn't artistic. Art itself reveals psychological ideas, and though it starts subconsciously, you can become more aware of it and control it. Symbolism is the key. "Art is a lie that helps us realize the truth." Artists are often enlightened because they end up thinking about all the little things in life and have some appreciation for it. It's really hard to explain, but art is an amazing thing.

At what point does something stop being tasteful artistic erotica and start being pornographic?
Q. This is simply for a public opinion survey, but at point does an image, a sculpture, or a DVD stop being tasteful artistic nudity (ie the statue David, Venus de Milo, ect) and start being pornography (ie simply done for the erotic pleasure of 18 year olds who can't get laid)? What do you feel indicates the difference and why?
Asked by Gr33nGr3m1in - Mon Feb 18 03:56:18 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I honestly don't think there is a definite line that can be drawn. What gives one person sexual desire may not have the same effect on someone else. I do think it's clear enough that classical art should not fall into the pornographic category, if nothing else due to its historical, artistic value, but some modern photography blurs the distinctions a bit more. Ultimately, it's up to parents to determine what they feel is appropriate for their children, and as you said, if you're an adult who is turned on by something that was intended to be artistic, there's something wrong anyway.

Need help for Artistic plateaus and how to overcome them?
Q. I've hit a rut in my artistic abilities, one that has lasted for about two years. I've been drawing a great deal, since practice makes perfect, but I haven't been able to improve upon my abilities. Does anyone have any ideas/excercises that can help me artistically challenge myself and eventually improve my skills?
Asked by Jennybean C - Fri Jul 11 16:43:25 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Read the book "The Artists Way" by Julia Cameron. It's a workbook that will help with the issues you are facing. Something that I do is go to differnt art shows and galleries or look at other art online. Sometimes this can spark an idea and help get the creative juices flowing again.

What artistic things can I do with pieces of my tree trunk?
Q. We are currently cutting down a pine tree in my yard due to disease. It's about 100 ft tall or so, 8 ft in circumference. The person we are hiring to do the job is going to leave pieces of the tree in our yard to dispose of ourselves. What I'm asking is, what sort of artistic things can we do with parts of the tree? We thought about using ovals of the tree for canvas or as a table top, or maybe wood burning. What ideas do you have? thanks!

Q. I have no artistic ability. None. The only thing I can think of is tie ribbons around it. Any more suggestions?

A. Get a jar of decoupage, any craft store or kmart, walmart will have it. It looks like Elmer's glue. You can cut out pictures of anything you like or a picture of yourself, you could find a poem you like and retype it in a really pretty font like papyrus on old paper...just brush some of the decoupage on the jar, stick the picture or whatever paper to it then brush over the surface of the paper and around it on the jar. It goes on milky but dries clear. It would be cute to cut out little stars or hearts from any pictures and stick them on. It's cheap and easy.

What's a good Christmas gift for an artistic 10 year old girl?
Q. I want to get my creative daughter something artistic to work on for a gift. She doesn't like paint or color, she just likes line art with a black pen on white paper. So art kits are usually wasted on her.
Asked by Juliet V - Wed Nov 28 15:58:21 2007 - - 13 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Dick Blick on line art store - browse it to see what catches your eye. There are "scratch boards" that do the reverse of ink drawing - you cover them in ink and scratch the lines out showing the white. Charcoal pencils and rubbers with the special paper that goes with it.

A. Have you had any experience of the other 3 pieces? If not , then it will be harder. However you obviously have a good solid handstand and balance for acro. But just be prepared to have to work through the very basic skills on the other pieces before you compete at a higher level. Short answer : No its not too late : ) Go for it!

A. Not sure I understand your question... For the person problem why not trace a few figures so you can see how the lines work together. Get a wooden poseable model and use it for body references and flexture. Find idea pictures and reference pictures and just keep practicing. Humans are a hard thing to draw and they take practice, some never do find the magic in human form but their art sings in other ways. May you be blessed.

Q. I'm more of an athletic person where I can play sports really well, but when it comes to being musical or artistic I'm not very good at that. There's no reason you can't be both athletic and musical, it just takes a bit more work and time, and not even that much more!

A. If you own the company you can do whatever you want. Short of that Design is a discipline which not only can be taught, it is being taught all the time. Most people are "artistic". That does not mean, of course, that most people can draw. If you've tried some design classes and are unable to pass them, I'm sorry, but the usual way to get design work is by networking or through your portfolio or both. Go for Basic Design courses first and they will tell you if you have what it takes.
