How much should I pay a free lance artist?
Q. I'm working on a graphic novel, and I have decided the best way to get a quality artist is to hire one. I'm drawing up a classified ad to make the rounds on artist sites, but I'm not sure how much to offer for art. I'm not rich, and I have connections with publishers, so this is kinda a sure deal, but I know artists are wary of being paid *after* the work is published. I need to know, what is a good price to offer, knowing the artist will also get a percentage off the profits. We're talking an 80-100 page piece.

A. If you are not rich, like you said, then you may have to go with "share the profits" kind of deal. Pay minimum amount and then do a 25%-30% profits sharing. Making sure you hire someone you can work with which means someone who really understand what you are trying to do. Do not just hire someone who will work within your budget. Good Luck on your novel! :)
