An architect is trained and licensed in the planning and designing of buildings, and participates in supervising the construction of a building. Etymologically, architect derives from the Latin architectus, itself derived from the Greek arkhitekton (arkhi-, chief + tekton, builder), i.e. chief builder. A looser usage of Architect is: the translator of the building user's requirements of and from a building into an inhabitable environment. Moreover, the words architect and architecture are used in the disciplines of engineering, e.g. computer software architect; however, in some of the world's jurisdictions, the professional and commercial uses of these etymologic variants, are legally protected from such loose denotations.

Professionally, an architect's decisions affect public safety, and thus an architect must undergo specialized training consisting of advanced education and a practicum (or internship) for practical experience to earn a license to practice architecture. The practical, technical, and academic requirements for becoming an architect vary by jurisdiction (see below).

A. At the highest level, silicon area and power are always concerns, but schedule pressure is king. Day to day, latency vs. cycle time is probably the #1 thing. You can speed up a system by pipelining it deeply, but if that pipe has an instruction in flight that is holding a result you need in a subsequent operation - and you can't reorder the operation to avoid it - then you have to wait, that is, stall the pipe. This slows your system down. So you have to strike a balance to achieve the best overall throughput for the types of algorithms you intend to implement. Another related issue is keeping the pipe full, that is, avoiding delays from things like RAM access that can cause "bubbles" (unused instruction slots) in your processing… [cont.]

Architects drawings incorrect. New roof doesn't correspond to drawings. Can neighbours get it reduced in size.
Q. architects drawings totally misleading. New roof much higher than shown on drawing when planning permission was granted. Will enforcement officer possibly demand it is altered as according to the drawing

A. If it was a sketch, the architect gets some leeway; if a finished drawing, he fogged up. It's easy to change the roof pitch all the way around if nothing is begun.

Architecture is the art and science of designing buildings and structures.

  • The art of dancing stands at the source of all the arts that express themselves first in the human person. The art of building, or architecture, is the beginning of all the arts that lie outside the person; and in the end they unite.
  • Architects know that some kinds of design problems are more personal than others. One of the cleanest, most abstract design problems is designing bridges. There your job is largely a matter of spanning a given distance with the least material. The other end of the spectrum is designing chairs. Chair designers have to spend their time thinking about human butts.

But what distinguishes the worst architect from the best of bees is this, that the architect raises his structure in imagination before he erects it in reality
