What are the qualities and talent that make an actor/actress good?
Q. In other words, what separates the good actors/actresses and the bad actors/actresses? What are the qualities that make an actor/actress good? You hear of people nowadays that many of the 20-something year old young actors are not actors. Why? What makes a good actor good and a bad actor bad?

A. A lot goes into acting. All good actors/actresses get to the point where they aren't acting anymore. They're living out their roles. Take Heath Ledger for example. Best actor I've ever seen from The Dark Knight, but ended up accidentally killing himself because of his role (If you've seen the movie, you'd understand). Actors and actresses don't just sympathize with the feelings of the character they play. They empathize. They get into it and become the role. I've read that a lot of good actors have a part of the character they play stick with them because it felt so real to them.

Q. I am just a 12 year old girl from U.S. & I'm trying to pursue my acting career when I go to the Philippines. I could understand Tagalog, but I can't speak it fluently, but when I speak Tagalog I don't have an accent at all. I am really good in acting drama scenes & many more. I'm just wondering when I go to the Philippines what should I do first so I could get discovered as an actor ? I am pretty tall for my age, but some people say I'm short. Q. I would like to be an actor and would like exposure like in commercials,etc., but where do I start? I'm 13 and have only done a few plays. I here all the talk about getting agents, but I don't know of what agencies are better than others. Q. Hi All, I have a Passion of becoming an actor. I have enrolled in an Acting program at NUSTARTS. Who was the black actor with a tallll afro who was in movies during the early 90s?
Q. He was a really really funny actor, and I really only remember him being in movies that dealt with parties.. But yea, he's the only actor I can remember with like a foot tall afro hairdo.. Anyone know his name?

What can I start doing to become an actor?
Q. When I get older I want to be an actor but I really don't know where to start. I'm a sophomore in high school. I'm taking Theatre class and was in the play last year and I'm also planning on being in it this year. What else should I do to prepare, where should I go to college for acting, and anything else I should know/do. Thanks.

A. College for acting is NOT necessary to be an actor. If you go to college, make the most of your experience. Part of acting is living the life. Why not get a rich college experience so you'll have an interesting story to tell through your work. How much does an actor make at the lowest pay scale?
Q. Reports from surrounding the CBS show "Kid Nation" state that each child was paid $5,000 for 40 days work. According to the article if these reality show participants were to be classified as actors the $5,000 for 40 days work would be insufficient as even the lowest scales of union pay. So, how much would an actor make for 40 days work according to the lowest union pay scales?

A. Oh my gosh, there are sooo many factors that go into negotiating contracts, especially when you're looking at a 40-day period. According to the contract info on the SAG website, the lowest amount for a day performer is a daily rate of $759 or a weekly rate of $2634. So, yes, in a nutshell, the $5000 those kids are getting paid is less than the typical union amounts, however it's impossible to put a set number on how much the "typical" actor would get. Hopefully they have a good agent who will negotiate them a higher rate! Check out the contracts section on sag.org for rate breakdowns.
