What are the qualities and talent that make an actor/actress good?
Q. In other words, what separates the good actors/actresses and the bad actors/actresses? What are the qualities that make an actor/actress good? You hear of people nowadays that many of the 20-something year old young actors are not actors. Why? What makes a good actor good and a bad actor bad?
Asked by Greg - Fri Sep 19 13:28:34 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A lot goes into acting. All good actors/actresses get to the point where they aren't acting anymore. They're living out their roles. Take Heath Ledger for example. Best actor I've ever seen from The Dark Knight, but ended up accidentally killing himself because of his role (If you've seen the movie, you'd understand). Actors and actresses don't just sympathize with the feelings of the character they play. They empathize. They get into it and become the role. I've read that a lot of good actors have a part of the character they play stick with them because it felt so real to them.

A. For an actor to give the best of himself in any role he is playing, I personally believe that he should believe in that character to start with, however absurd or irrealistic that character may be. An actor's role is to convince the audience about the veracity of that character and this is only possible if he gives himself completely to that role. An actor has, as a person, his own character. It is difficult to try to 'be someone else'. It is not exactly that the actor should 'believe', but it is his duty to make it realistic, both in acting and in essence. However much the character may be to his dislike, he should put on a show of liking it. The aim of presenting a play is to make it appear more real, if you get my meaning. I believe… [cont.]

How does one become an Actor/ ress? What is is that you have to be able to do to be an actress/or?
Q. I know, I knwo, you need to study and practice. BUT before you do that you have to have some special abilities to become an actor. Eg., I am an Interpreter. I know that not every person who spreaks a foregn language can be an Interpreter. Because you have to think and operate the Language in a ceratin way. I believe, it is same with acting ( and any other profession) : there have to be things that only an Actor knows how to do and when and why. So, tell me, please, what does it take to be an actres// OR? I know there is a Technique involved and you can learn it and master and apply. BUT before I go to an acting school, I'd like to know if there are ( and I am sure that there are) prerequisites / required/ absolutely necessary skills/… [cont.]

A. There is no special ability you need to start acting, other than the desire to do it. Before you commit to a large-scale training program, I would suggest auditioning for a play or musical at your school or local community theatre. Many community theatres and professional theatres offer classes for kids and adults. I highly recommend checking these out. Your ability to interpret can only help you in your task. You only need the desire and commitment to act. I suggest reading several books on acting and auditioning to get you started--there are many to choose from. Audition by Michael Shurtleff is one of the standards. Start within your community to cut your teeth on your first production. I also recommend volunteering backstage to get to… [cont.]

You will not get a lead role! you are asking these questions which mean you probably have no experience. Which means no agent. If you are just starting now it will take YEARS for you to get an agent, not to mention experience to get that agent. NOW, if you want to be an extra for a show, heres some links that you can contact the casting directors. www.actinginfo.blogspot.c om/ Good Luck to You!

A. You need to find a GREAT Talent Agent who has the clout to get you Disney Auditions. You can ONLY get Disney Auditions through Talent Agents! Any other site that promises that is a SCAM! Look up LEGIT agencies here: To get an agent, your parents need to be involved if under 18 and you need to get GREAT headshots, a good resume, and training from the best. These are enough to get you a commercial agent at least. Getting a GOOD theatrical agent (Film/tv) takes longer. Most good theatrical agents won t see you unless you re SAG, have a polished resume, and a demo reel. Commercial agents are more lenient about that. What the best Commercial agents want to see on your resume are good commercial classes, improv, and cold reading. You can… [cont.]

A. When you're first starting out it may not matter what agency is better than another. You have to see who is interested in you, then you can see if you even have a decision to make. If more than one gency is interested then great! If not, then you go with who will take you. You can always do a 6 month probationary contract so that if either of you are unhappy, you can back out at that time. If things are going well, you sign a more standard 2 year contract. BTW, you never pay an agent until they help you get a role. They get paid when you do. Before you get to that, you do need more experience. Find some classes and workshops. School stuff is ok to start, but you need to expand your horizons and your resume. Look to local and… [cont.]

How can I get an agent that works with the "big guys"? And should I model first to get my foot in the door? A. One of the words I'm sure you've already heard is "exposure". Modeling serves two purposes. Making money and being seen under the best circumstances. I'm sure you also know the importance of getting a good agent. They are privy to contacts you can only think about. If you are set on being a serious actor, New York is the best place to live. There are many, many places to be seen and also to make personal contacts. Get involved in some small theatres for on the job experience. It's not uncommon for established actors to attend the small theatre performances. Be very careful about the portfolio you will take with you on auditions. There are a lot of people out there will charge a ridiculous amount of money and not do a very good job. It's… [cont.]

Celebrities are anything but perfect, look on Wikipedia at celebrities and read up on them and you'll see for yourself how to become an actor. What I'm planning on doing is start by taking Summer classes at my local theater then moving to an agency, a lot of agencies have a Agent Calling thing were a bunch of Agents come and watch aspiring actors perform to see if they want them as a client. A. Hey, If this is somthing you want to acheive and make a living out of when you are older, then go for it man. What makes a good actor is one that reads more about the character they are portraying. And you could add some stuff you feel the character would fit better to. Many actors do this all the time. Some tips I have for you are is is you do get a role, and you dont like the role you play, play it the way you think it should be played. And hopefully in a few years or whenever i see you in a movie or whatever. Good luck and I hope the audition goes very well and you get it.

How much does an actor make at the lowest pay scale?
Q. Reports from surrounding the CBS show "Kid Nation" state that each child was paid $5,000 for 40 days work. According to the article if these reality show participants were to be classified as actors the $5,000 for 40 days work would be insufficient as even the lowest scales of union pay. So, how much would an actor make for 40 days work according to the lowest union pay scales?
Asked by sometimes it goes - Fri Aug 31 11:54:43 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Oh my gosh, there are sooo many factors that go into negotiating contracts, especially when you're looking at a 40-day period. According to the contract info on the SAG website, the lowest amount for a day performer is a daily rate of $759 or a weekly rate of $2634. So, yes, in a nutshell, the $5000 those kids are getting paid is less than the typical union amounts, however it's impossible to put a set number on how much the "typical" actor would get. Hopefully they have a good agent who will negotiate them a higher rate! Check out the contracts section on sag.org for rate breakdowns.
