What are some activities I can do with my BIG dog inside while it is raining outside?
Q. I want some ideas of some fun activities that I can play with my Weimaraner indoors. It is raining outside, and he hates going out in the rain. I want some activities that don't result in wrecking my house, as those Weims have A LOT of energy! Please comment, give me some of your fun activities you play with your dogs inside (big dog or small dog even), and thanks for commenting!

A. Aim at a good brain work out rather than a physical romp, and you'll still have a happy, but tired dog at the end of it. You can buy great wooden toys where you hide food in the maze/cups and the dog has to work out which bit of the puzzle the food is under, or you can use the rainy time to increase your dog's obedience, or repertoire of tricks - how about adding roll over/play dead/bow... or teaching him to fetch a toy by name? Clicker training is useful here. Of course, he'll still need a good run when it stops raining - but you'll both have had fun and he'll have learned some new tricks at the same time.

What tourist activities in Maui & Oahu require booking at least 5 days ahead?
Q. In my research, I noticed a few tips about needing to book some activities at least 5 days in advance---at the time I was just browsing and thought I'd run into it again upon further research. Now planning activities for our Hawaii trip and want to make sure I cover all my bases. I figure luaus don't have to be booked early...maybe like sunset cruises? Anyone? Are there others to be sure to book in advance?
Asked by luvtropics - Tue May 13 22:48:24 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It kind of depends on when you are going. We've found that summer months (when kids are out of school) and holidays tend to be extra busy. Thing tend to book up during those times. Actually Old Lahaina Luau on Maui books up a lot year round, so if you are thinking about that one, you should definitely book it asap. It's arguably the best in Hawaii. Some activities are cheaper if you book directly with the company ahead of time. Trilogy on Maui is one company that comes to mind. What sports/physical activities are good for someone with Cystic Fibrosis?
Q. I want to get my daughter involved in some good sports/physical activities. She's only 3 years old. She has Cystic Fibrosis. We live in New York and walk a lot, she gets out of breath often when we go for walks and walk up hills. But the doctors say its good for her to have to work her lungs. What are the best sports and other physical activities I should get her involved in?
Asked by Heidi - Sat Dec 19 19:13:35 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Regular exercise improves the health of people who have cystic fibrosis. Exercise helps loosen mucus, encourages coughing, improves oxygen flow, and makes you feel better. Upper body exercises, such as swimming or rowing, increase the strength and endurance of the muscles that are used for breathing. After talking to your doctor about how much exercise is good for your child, encourage your child to participate in sports and recreational activities. Team sports are great ways for your child to stay fit and to interact with other children. Talk to the coach or supervisor about your child's abilities and the important role of physical activity in the treatment of cystic fibrosis. Some people who have cystic fibrosis may not be strong… [cont.]

What kind of outdoor bug activities and games are there for children?
Q. I've been asked to put together a bug themed, 50 minute nature program for kindergarten through third grade kids for this summer. I need activities and games for it. Any suggestions on either activities or good sites to find activities?
Asked by keneckar - Wed Jun 9 16:46:45 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 50 minutes is a short time but you could try 2 or 3 of the following. First, teach the children to respect living creatures by teaching them the four Ls. Look at them, learn about them, let them go (after a short time), then leave them alone. Get the kids to think about what they need to survive and teach that the bugs need the same treatment. Second, give each child a mini bug bottle with a magnifying lens if possible, and let them find and observe a bug. Have them team up with a friend and compare bugs. How are they the same? How are they different? Release bugs back to the same place they found them. Third - Play a fun bug game such as "Let The Bugs Go" (a running game) Materials: 2 colors of plastic cups, a large area to run 1.… [cont.]

A. If they're happy and also have regular downtime to do what they want/ play with friends/ be outside then they're fine. I'm a big supporter of unstructured time, but anyone who tells you there's some set number of activities that's "too many" doesn't realize how different kids can be. I know what you mean about driving back and forth. I have four and I try to schedule activities together (like simultaneous swim lessons) or on weekends or evenings when my husband is home so that I don't have to drag all the kids along to another kid's activity. My younger kids do 2 activities in the morning when the older ones are at school, and the older ones have a total of 3 activities (totaling 2 hours a week) all split between Thursday afternoon… [cont.]

What kind of activities are good for 4year old preschoolers?
Q. My twins started preschool and I am disappointed because there is too much emphasis on "homework" which is really two worksheets a day. I'd like to know any age appropriate fun activities that help prepare them for kindergarten. I had read some fantastic answers to a question regarding "homework slips for early education". The person asking was looking to print worksheets and everyone who answered said it was a bad idea and provided alternate activities. That question has been deleted, so if anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again!

A. I totally know how you feel! My son is in preschool and I feel that they pressure the homework thing on parents too much! I do like doing homework with my child, but when my son doesn't want to do something at school, they send his work home to me to do with him. They say they can't make a child do what they don't want to do. Which I feel I feel like is a bunch of bull to an extent... they baby the kids too much and don't work with them as much as they should. They want them to play all day, which I feel they should play, but they should be getting the child ready for kindergarten. They don't play all day in kindergarten. They have to know how to use scissors, glue things, write their name (they will work with them a little on name… [cont.]

A. There's always the "Scene It" games that you guys can play. Or you can bust out the games that you used to play back in the day like Chutes and Ladders, Clue, Candyland, Trouble, Sorry, etc. You can always order pizza and watch a movie or two. Scavenger hunt is fun. You guys are coming from the beach right? Well, everyone usually brings a bunch of stuff with them. Maybe you and your friend can come up with a list together of some of the typical/not-so-typical things that you would bring with you. They can work in groups or individually. Then have a prize for that group/person at the end of the game.

I've tried to sit her down to 'color' and to use her blocks but she's not interested. However, she enjoys it when I read to her a story. My question is how do you entertain your toddle at home? What activities do you do with him/her? Doing activities outside our home is not a problem. We actually go out everyday. I'll lay on my back and stretch my legs, do the bridge, and other little stretches and exercises. She loves to do them with me. She also likes it when I hold her and roll around. Sometimes I'll roll like a log and go "beep, beep...". She never gets tired of me chasing her around. We'll chase each other, hide, and pop out. Tickling is also fun. A. Watch a movie. One that they own, or libraries usually have some child friendly movies. Read a book to them. One that they own, or from the library. Play with blocks or dolls or whatever toys they have. Colour. If you're worried about the carpet/floor, get markers that only work on the special paper. Put on some music and dance. If you are creative, make up a story and let the older one add in things, it's really fun, and there doesn't really have to be a plot. Go to a park if there is one close.
