What happens after you graduate from the fire academy?
Q. I want to know what happens after you finish the fire academy do they assign you to a firestation? If so what happens then? Do the Academy help you find a job?
Asked by Keith W - Mon Jul 28 00:19:41 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Typically they do not assign you to a firestation...they will often help you locate openings or have connections that may help place you on a list for applying to a particular fire department. Having the knowlegde is a great start but you will need to apply and present yourself in a professional manner. There will often be tests and questions that each FD will want to ask you... Good luck

What is the difference between an academy and high school?
Q. My school is changing to an academy and i was just wondering whats the difference?

A. To my knowledge an Academy is a school that has students from Kindergarten all the way to the 12th grade. Basically it combines, elementary, junior/middle, and high school all together. High school is just 9th - 12th grade.

How will it work if I attend the police academy while being a member of the National Guard?
Q. With the 2 days a month + 2 weeks a year of drilling that National Guard soldiers are supposed to attend, the police academy would defiantly get in the way of that. Will the academy excuse me for those drilling periods?
Asked by gjfgj - Thu Jul 10 15:08:49 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The National Guard will work with you, and if necessary change your active duty dates for the two week training. Your scenario is unusual because most people go into a Reserve/National Guard unit at the age of 18. You can not get into the Academy until the age of 20 1/2. As far as the two week training after you're on the job, the department will put you on a Military leave status. My suggestion is, don't attempt to do both at the same time. The academy may just drop you.

What are the standards for the airforce academy?
Q. I'm going to be a freshman in high school and I want to go to the academy. I'm planning on doing JROTC for all four years of high school and I make honor roll every year. But what are their academic standards and stuff?
Asked by lifes like a box of chocolates - Tue Jul 14 12:58:56 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The academic standards are high, as they are for all the academies. Doing JROTC for all 4 years will definitely help. I knew a kid in JROTC, who didn't even have a full schedule of classes every day, and made decent grades, but he did lots of extra stuff in JROTC and had his pilot's licence, and he got into the AF Academy. So you need good grades but you also need to do extracurriculars, and participate in JROTC events and teams. Good Luck

How was your training at ATP flight academy?
Q. I'm seriously considering ATP flight academy. I'm think I'm too old (30 going on 31 in Dec) to wait much longer so I decided on accelerated school. I understand the pro's / cons. I'm thinking about getting my PPL at a FBO in the mean time. How was your schedule for the career program??? Did the instructors know enough to teach you? Did many of your peers pass/fail? What kind of flight experience did you have prior to the program? Would you reccomend it to a friend?

A. My cuz is a cop and when she moved, she applied with another depart. Here's couple things to think about. I would find out which departs around are hiring and ask them if they send you to an academy--alot will, so that will save you some money. Also, some depart if their large will have their own--like Lubbock, TX (she had applied with them) I wouldn't pay to go b/c you still would have to go through the hiring process, interview, oral board.

How does Academy of Art U compare to Ringling?
Q. In terms of quality and campus, how does the Academy of Art University compare to Ringling College of Art and Design? Also, consider the majors of Animation and new motion design/motion graphics. Thanks for any input. And I already know of the price difference.

A. Hey. I'm majoring in Animation myself (but not at an art school). In terms of reputation, I know Ringling has an amazing animation major. If I were to choose between the two, I'd definitely go with Ringling. Plus, I love where it's at... Sarasota, FL. The beach couldn't get much better. I don't know much about the animation at the Academy of Art U, but that's probably because I'm on the East Coast and have kind of avoided the schools on that side of the country. Hope this helps some.. :)

Bucking up and finishing the program now might (should) be something he could possibly do, but why do you think he's going to be any happier on the job than he is now in the academy? A. Depends on the department. I live in NY and know that most academies are part time like college classes, but the state police are a live-in M-F and they come home on weekends and after a few weeks of good behavior are allowed phone time to call home during the week. Other academies are Full time 8-4 M-F so they come home in the evening. If LAPD is like NYPD it is M-F come home in the evening and off weekends, enjoy it because after the academy they'll never have weekends and holidays off for a while, and will probably be on the least desireable hours of 3-11 or 11-7...lol

A. Depends if it is an academics academy or a boot camp academy. You would have to choose which is more appealing to you. Mine was an academic academy but we had some great PT and defensive tactics instructors. They even got us into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ground fighting. I already had my CJ degree so it was more of a refresher for me. The other cadets thought it was very fair and enlightening. The hard part is not the academy. The hard part is the FTO and shadowing program when you get to the road.

What qualities do you think the academy looks for when choosing best picture?
Q. This is not asking what you like in a movie but what you think the academy looks for. Is it characters that are simple and lovable or plots with a definite moral? Historical movies? A. A tougher question than you think. Originally, the Oscar usually went to the most "entertaining" movie...a movie that was original, well made and pushed by the biggest studios. Over the years, this changed. In the 70's there was a rush to show you were "hip" and contemporary themes won more often. Science fiction almost always does poorly. Romances rule (with a good story) over most westerns and testosterone movies. Characters do well, but big budget historicals done well have won a lot...remember Ben Hur? But then, in 1956, Around the World in 80 days, beat the 10 Commandments! Should I join the Academy of Finance and sacrifice a good GPA for experience or forget aboutit and work onGPA?
Q. Ok, so there is this special program called the Academy of Finance at my school. To get in, I have to take a bunch of regular 4.0 business electives, but if I do take the courses, I get a summer internship to a prestigious company and Co-Op in my senior year. However, it will lower my GPA significantly and my chances of becoming valedictorian or saluatorian will be ruined. But, there is a cool summer internship that goes with it and that experience is something unique to put on a resume. Or, should I forget about the Academy of Finance and just take a few business electives here and there?

A. Yes you should Iam currently enrolled in the Academy of Finance and there are so many opportunities. I gt to work at a job that payed me 8 dollars a hour and I did nothing whatsoeever. I actually coulda have gotten payed 12 or 13 but I was being lazy ofcourse these amounts all depend on how well ur AOF coordinator is connected. This is my senior year now and Iam happy as ever that I made this decision. The courses arent to difficult so far the hardest for me was College Accounting which isn't even that hard IMO. Just make sure u get a buddy to practice with and youll be A okay.

How should I prepare for the police academy and what should I do to prepare mentally and physically?
Q. I just quit my security job and am planning on going through the police academy. Any experiences you would like to share?

A. You should do push ups, sit ups and some running. In general you need to be in good shape physically. Mentally they give you a hard time but not as bad as basic training in military. Be prepared for a lot of late nights studying. If it is something you want you can do it.
